The Bachelor [DVD] [2000]

Bachelor of Science has a critical hit when playing in theaters, probably because reviewers could not make the comparison with a film based on it, a brilliant comedy of Buster Keaton's Seven Chances. But on its own terms, Bachelor of Science is a small and fun part of Jimmie (Chris O'Donnell), fortunately, a young man who unexpectedly receives an ultimatum to his grandfather's plans to marry her thirtieth birthday, or lose the assets of $ 100 million. This is evident from the previous day, that very birthday. Unfortunately, Jimmie had already proposed to his girlfriend Anne (Renee Zellweger), and turned down, he sees in his eyes that he is not ready to marry and refuses to accept it until it is. So Jimmie needs to find a bride - fast. Despite the commitment, shy man is a hoary cliché, Bachelor successfully exaggerates Jimmie's fears is a comic proportions.O'Donnell is affable as usual, but it is Zellweger who seizes every scene he is and do something really fun out of it. The film's greatest weakness is that he is such a small part of the second half. Yet there is good support performance of Hal Holbrook, Ed Asner, James Cromwell, and Marley Shelton (as Zellweger's sister) and Peter Ustinov and Brooke Shields both have very funny scenes. Bachelor skirts dangerously chauvinistic territory at times, but usually it is a pleasant comedy, true sense of humor. - Bret Fetzer
